Yes, Cuvee Charlotte 2003. It is one of those moments when you feel that you have a revelation, that The Thing is going to happen, and it is happening the way you’ve been expecting it. It’s one of those wines known even by wine ignorants. Like Rioja .....

A venit toamna

by Calin Marian on 20 September 2010 · 0 comments

A venit toamna. A inceput sezonul culesului. Cam asa as incepe o compunere clasica, de scoala sau de ziar. Din pacate, sezonul culesului e tot mai putin prezent in viata noastra. Mai degraba l-as numi sezonul furatului.

DAVINO Feteasca Neagra 2004

May 27, 2010

20.05.2010
In the end a Feteasca Neagra 2004 from DAVINO with a very intense ruby to garnet red colour, slightly opalescent. The mature nose shows a lot of dark forest fruits, licorice and some hints of new leather. At the palate you can find distinct scents of dried plumbs, a very pronounced dark chocolate flavour, vanilla, blackberries and cigar box (tobbacco). Being round and smooth in the mouth, the wine seemed in the beginning a little bit sweaty. But this problem vanished after some time. Its fine tannins and acidity are giving a solid structure and noble elegance until the .....

Nachbil Merlot Barrique 2003

May 23, 2010

20.05.2010
One done but still one to go. The 2003 Merlot started out very well. Very healthy and strong red color, with a wonderful first smell-cocktail composed out of red and black forest fruits. In the beginning you can find soft Cassis and also cherry-flavours and after some time, these aromas become even more pronounced. Next to those fruity components also spicy ones like wood and cacao are filling your mouth. The wine is very smooth, round and c conquers every part of the mouth but its fruitiness is not too dominant. An already good integrated acidity and a good .....

Nachbil Shiraz Barrique 2003

May 23, 2010

20.05.2010
Because of my very good impression of the Pinot Noir 2003, I also bought 2003 Merlot and this 2003 Shiraz which showed in the beginning a very nice garnet-red colour with a little brown at the margin. The first smell was closed and a little bit oxidized, but after a few minutes, it showed some typical condiments like dark pepper but not very well structured/delimited. At the palate again some dark pepper but also bitter chocolate paired with a strong and bold acidity. The wine appeared a bit lean until its medium to short aftertaste. Therefore in the end .....

Carl Reh Merlot La Cetate 2003

April 9, 2010

05.02.2010
A very deep garnet-red with a soft red-brown hue is flattering the eyes and its very clear and fine nose is making lust for more. Brown spices like cloves, cinnamon and walnut are dominating the bouquet. Dried plums and some hints of cassis and strawberry marmelade are forming the fruity part. The wine seems a little bit woody and market-driven but nevertheless very good made. At the palate medium bodied with a decent pressure, ripe and good integrated tannins and a good finish. Nice wine.

Casa Davino Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Classe 2002

April 6, 2010

05.02.2010
After 2-3 days of decanting in the bottle, the wine shows a fine-grained depot and a nice, deep ruby-red and very healthy colour. Its nose needs some aeritation to offer you its interesting flavours of dark fruits like cassis, blackthorne, black-berries and some “smoked” red paprika. Lactical notes like butter and scents of leather are smoothening the bouquet. Fine tannins and a still lively acidity are giving this wine structure and still some more potential for further ageing. All in all a very nice aged Cabernet and a brilliant companion for food.

Cabernet Sauvignon River Route Limited Edition 2002

April 2, 2010

05.02.2010
The wine shows a deep garnet-red with a red-brown margin. Its nose is very oxidative like brown apples and licorice but also dried plums and old wood are recognizable. A very obvious influence of oxygen. At the palate spiky, obviously very aged and metalic. There are still some tannins left but the main impression is its high amount of acidity. This wine is already fading away, what shows also its short and adstringent aftertaste. Drink it now !

Syrah Nachbill 2007

April 1, 2010

05.02.2010
This wine from one of the most northern romanian wineries owns a nice and clear ruby-red colour, which is not too pronounced for the variety. In the nose very restrained but after some time typical scents of fresh meat, some cinnamon and a soft soured cherry touch. At the palate ripe but still very tight tannins and an acidity, which appears pretty bold because of the wines’ rather slim to medium body. And also the very short aftertaste shows, that it is simply too young and undeveloped to be already consumed. Give it again a try in 3 + years .....

Villa Zorilor Swallowtail 2001

March 12, 2010

04.04.2009
A deep and clear ruby-red. In the beginning a little bit sweaty but this is disappearing after some time of breathing. Then the wine develops a warm and earthy character. Ripe, like plums and some cigar box in company with dark chocolate and mocha. The fine chased acidity and rangy tannins a building up a good pressure at the palate until the medium length finish. The wine seems in the beginning still pretty compact and needs therefore some time in the glasses but nonetheless it is already a really fine wine experience.
