Officially Australia has the reputation of producing mainly heavy, very concentrated red wines. Shiraz first of all. Detractors may even talk about the famous “marmalade wines”. Beside the fact that I don’t appreciate such general prejudices it’s more than clear that the range of Australian wines is much wider. Ever tried .....

2009 Sauvignon Blanc Steenberg South Africa Constantia Sauvignon Blanc 0,75 l Screwcap 12.5 vol.% dry white III

This wine shows a very soft, light yellow-green colour. The nose is very erbaceous with a lot of green paprika and gooseberries paired by a very strong, almost salty minerality and a lot of flintstone. In the mouth a slender body offered traces of flintstone and again pretty green .....

28.06.2010
Together with a friend we wanted to find out, if it’s really true, that New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc has to be consumed within the first years because it cannot age gracefully. I tried already some very nice aged Sauvignons from the Loire-region or from the Bordelais-region (here not always 100 % pure). So why shouldn’t a New Zealand one be capable to do the same thing ? For the tasting we picked out two wines from one of New Zealand’s most popular wineries. Cloudy Bay may be a big producer/brand, but nevertheless all the wines I tried so far, offered .....
