After a longer period of time we managed finally to meet again with some other wine lovers and to enjoy a couple of wines at the CellarTales International WineRoundTable Edition No. 5. The scoop of this evening was to try and to compare 3 different styles of Champagne, 3 Austrian Riesling wines from famous producers and to see, how BDX wines developed over 3 decades in taste and style. Last but not least we have had in the end a Sauternes wine from a smaller vintage but out of a bigger bottle ! So let’s see, what ran .....

This smaller winery (ca. 15 ha, 80.000 bottles/year) farms organically and is specialized in Chardonnay. Vinified out of just this one variety, this iberian “Blanc de Blancs” showed a nice, ripe golden-yellow colour with a very fine mousseux. Concerning champagnes the markets outside of France are dominated by just a few famous brands (Moet & Chandon for example is the biggest) and their different wines.. But if you are visting the region you will also find a lot of smaller wineries with excellent qualities and still reasonable prices. One of those wineries is Demière-Ansiot in Oger. He owns just couple of hectars but all of them in the best vineyard-locations (only Grand Cru) of the Côtes des Blancs (only Chardonnay). 1996 1er Cru “Coeur de Terroir” Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs

This wine was disgorged on the 6th October 2008. In the glass it sparkles with a clear, ripe golden colour and a fine, smooth mousseux. The nose offers splendid aromas of apples, some bread crust, yeast dough, some citrus fruit and a hint of caramel. A very well aged champagne-bouquet. At the palate a smooth foaming and a tight acidity – refreshing, with a good bite… Only in the aftertaste we noticed a little weakness and age because of the clear wax/old mop taste (not to be mistaken with the famous “petrol-taste” you may find in some aged, high quality .....
